Chapter 1 & 2 Responses
I am late with this blog response but better late then never.
I actually really like this chapter because It makes me feel better. I like to be bossy but I do not want the responsibility of being a boss. This linear path is what makes a major feel so stressful. You feel like your majoring in something and that's pretty much the only option when its not. On the 4th and 5th page there are two separate list. One list showing majors with a job directly connected to it and the other shows a list of majors with different fields of careers.
Of course there are majors that people study and get the jobs they want like lawyers and doctors and I'm sure there are people that stick to their major for a job ,but that is not necessary. What I got from this is we can take a breather study and get the best out of a major we enjoy and use all knowledge to achieve a job we want in a different field. Its possible and It does happen.
Who knows the butterfly effect theory can happen to me. I am studying social sciences but working at a private equity on Wall St, who's to say I don't become the director of research or next analyst in my company, by the time I'm done with school?!
Stay Positive classmates and enjoy education.

Cover Letter Research
I really like this article on writing a cover letter. It says how its okay to have a little humor and in the best cases to use a name of a person that you and the company know. To include what your looking for and experience that you have. Its from Forbes and that is a credible source.
This article is from Wiki. It gives the steps to do before writing your cover letter. Its pretty straight down to the point and gives you a step by step.
Last we have an article from Inside Higher Ed this is the only one out of the three articles that says to check your social media. This is Facebook, Twitter, and even using Google to see what pops up with your name, that can damage your chances. This should come with proof reading your cover letter.
REAL IMPORTANT to check our social web pages. Now a days many companies take a look at a potential hire 's page or using Google to find them.
All three websites state to proof read your work and speak so you interest the employer this means your cover letter should be changed to fit each company individually.

Portable Skills
Portable skills: Skills that are useful in more than one career and/or valuable in more than one position.
These are the skills we need to pay attention too and should embrace every opportunity that give us the chance to learn them. We all want to advance, it's even better when we can change our position and careers while still managing to do that. Portable skills can either be something you already have like a talent or hobby or something you pick up like presentation and research.
"The Importance of Portable Skills and Vocational Training."
-This explains why having portable skills will make you an invaluable employee to your employer.
When you are able to offer more than the specific to a company not only are you showing that you will be able to advance in more than one area but that right there puts you ahead of the game. We are talking about going in that interview with more than just confidence, going in with certainty!
Also by all of us continuing our education here at LaGuardia we are already taking the right path towards a good image with a future employer. So I applaud us all and wish nothing but strength to make it to graduation from here and path we decide to take afterwards.

"Assessing Your Skills; What Make You Different from All the Others."
-I really like this page because it breaks it down and gives us on image on how portable skills differ from past experience from previous jobs, and our personality. This lady by the name of Gina was interested on how she can sell herself to an employer to make her stand out from the rest. This is something we have to deal with every time we apply to a job so we can all relate to this story.
I realize that portable skills is an important to an employer and that it looks nice being said on a resume and in the interview but you should always show it because like we all know; actions speak louder than words.
